How to make a Valheim server
A dedicated Valheim server keeps your Viking world online so your group can sail, build and fight bosses whenever they're free, without anyone needing to host from their own PC.
1. Get enough RAM
4 GB is enough for most groups. If you run a lot of mods or your base and map grow large over time, going bigger gives it more headroom.
2. Create the server
Choose a Valheim plan on VantaHost. The server installs and starts automatically, and a server password is generated for you and shown in your client area.
3. Join it
In Valheim, go to Join Game → Add server, enter your server's address and port, then the password from your client area to connect. Valheim needs three ports in a row, and all three are configured automatically — there's nothing to forward yourself.
4. Find it in the server list
By default your server is public, so it also shows up in Valheim's in-game server browser. Friends can still connect directly with your address whether or not they find it listed.
5. Add mods
Valheim mods use the BepInEx framework. Upload BepInEx and your mod files through the game panel's file manager, matching what everyone in your group has installed, then restart the server.
6. Change settings and manage admins
Full file manager and SFTP access let you edit the server's config and world flags directly for anything not exposed as a button in the panel — including adding trusted players as admins so they can use in-game moderation commands.
