How to make a Project Zomboid server
A dedicated Project Zomboid server keeps your survivors' world running around the clock, so your group can log in and out on their own schedule.
1. Get enough RAM
4 GB works for a small group. If you're running a lot of mods or more players, 6 to 8 GB or more keeps things smoother.
2. Create the server
Choose a Project Zomboid plan on VantaHost. It installs from Steam and starts automatically, with an admin account ready to use. The game port and Steam query port are both configured for you — nothing to forward yourself.
3. Connect
In the game, choose Join → Internet, then either find your server in the browser or connect directly using the address and port shown in your client area.
4. Log in as admin
Open the in-game chat and log in with the username admin and the admin password from your client area to use admin tools.
5. Tuned memory
Project Zomboid's Java process is automatically capped at about 85% of your plan's RAM, so it has headroom to run without the game panel killing it for using more memory than you're paying for.
6. Add Workshop mods
Add the Steam Workshop mod and map IDs to the server config through the file manager, then restart the server to load them.
