How to make a 7 Days to Die server

By the VantaHost team · Updated September 2026

A dedicated 7 Days to Die server keeps the horde coming and the world ticking, so your group can survive together without anyone hosting from their own PC.

1. Get enough RAM

6 GB is the minimum. For bigger maps or more players, 8 to 12 GB runs more comfortably.

2. Create the server

Choose a 7 Days to Die plan on VantaHost. It installs from Steam and starts automatically, with all three ports the game needs configured for you.

3. Wait out the first start

The first time your server starts, it generates a new random world, which can take a while. Later restarts are much faster.

4. Connect

In 7 Days to Die, open the server browser and use Connect to IP, or save your server's address and port as a favorite for next time.

5. Configure the world

Edit serverconfig.xml in the file manager to change difficulty, blood moons, loot and more.

6. Add mods

Upload mods to the Mods folder through the file manager or SFTP, then restart the server to load them.
