How much RAM does a modded server need?
Lighter packs under about 100 mods run well on 4 to 6 GB. Big "kitchen sink" packs with 200+ mods want 8 to 12 GB. Too little memory is the most common reason a modded server crashes, so our RAM guide is worth two minutes.
Can I get a free modded server?
Not from us, and we would rather say so plainly. Free servers run Paper, Purpur or Vanilla with plugins, because a modpack needs far more memory than a free server has. Modpacks start on a paid plan.
Which modpacks can I install?
Any modpack on Modrinth that supports servers, including packs like Cobblemon and Create. Packs that only exist on other launchers are not installed for you, but you can still upload them yourself with the file manager.
Does a paid server run 24/7?
Yes. Paid servers stay up around the clock, so your world keeps ticking while you are offline. Only free servers sleep after 15 minutes with nobody online.
Can I switch to a different pack later?
Yes, from Manage server in your client area. Pick the new pack or version and choose whether to keep your worlds.
Can my friends join without installing anything?
No, everyone needs the same modpack installed on their own computer. The server runs the pack; each player's launcher has to match it.
Which mod loader should I pick if I'm not using a ready-made pack?
If you're installing a modpack, the loader is chosen for you automatically. Building your own list instead? Forge has the biggest library of older mods, NeoForge is what most new big mods target now, and Fabric — or Quilt, which also runs Fabric mods — is lighter and usually gets new Minecraft versions supported first.
How much disk space comes with a modded plan?
Every plan includes 10 GB of disk for each GB of RAM, so an 8 GB Pro server has 80 GB free for the pack, mods, configs and your world saves — plenty even for a large modpack.
Can I add extra mods on top of an installed modpack?
Yes. The mod browser in your client area reads your pack's own loader, so it only shows mods that are actually compatible, and you can drop extras in without breaking the pack.
